For those who can read and understand Japanese, I read this inspirational article on Voice written by Ken Noguchi, a famous Japanese alpinist and environmental activist. The article was about his struggles he faced when he started organizing a group of climbers in around 2000 to remove litter from the Mr. Everest. It’s not a pleasant read, but his article made me think of the importance of identifying “the real issues” when tackling specific problems.
A class called “1′2′10′” by Nick Bilton of New York Times that I took today reminded me of how I fell in love with information design while at Parsons School of Design, where I did a thesis about map design.
So I decided to bring back my strong interest in symbols, info/data organization & visualization again. Yesterday I went to see Danny Boyle’s award-winning film “Slumdog Millionaire” with Diana, who just came back to NYC from her month-long trip to Europe. The film was a blast. I loved from the beginning where Boyle used T-shirt as an opening credit, followed by uptempo Indian dance music to illustrate the tension among kids and police men in slum district of India. Before I left Tokyo I went to Roppongi to enjoy the great view of my glittering hometown. The Tokyo City View room at Roppongi Hills always gives me this stunning view of Tokyo Tower, which I think is the greatest landmark and icon of the city, standing in the middle of never-ending field of neon and glowing lights.
