I’ve got some updates for the “Making of ITP 30” documentation I posted on October 4, 2009. ITP professor Daniel Shiffman kindly shared a documentation blog of ITP 30 Big Screen projects, including my baby Timeline piece. The videos are just slices of the original 8160×768 pixel design. Thanks Dan for the beautiful videos!

Yesterday I went to the IAC building on 555 18th st. to check out the Big Screen test run for ITP’s 30th anniversary benefit party (RSVP required). So the basic idea is that during the Benefit party scheduled on October 3, 2009, we have a great opportunity of using a huge projection wall at IAC building to project works done by students, residents and faculty of ITP. We name this projection session “Big Screen” after a class that does the same thing at the end of this semester.
I got to IAC early around 10:30am, and found only Dan Shiffman was testing the screen. Later Matt, Tim, and Alex joined us. I especially wanted to see one of three major modes that I’ve been involved with design, which is a piece that visualizes ITP’s 30-year worth of history in a horizontally long timeline. Programmed by Matt Parker, a recent ITP alum and a Java and Processing genius currently working as a resident at ITP, the project looked just fabulous on the Screen. We found that we needed to consider changing some of background colors (we have different background colors for different years), layout of the text and some minor stuff, but everything else looked fine overall. Test run went well, allowing us to see what needs to be done by our next test run. I’m very excited to see our progress, and can’t wait for the October 3 event!
